BJP Protest March In Kolkata Turns Violent; Police Use Tear Gas, Water Canons

BJP employees, marching to the Kolkata Police Headquarters in Lalbazaar in Kolkata, clashed with the police on Wednesday. Reviews say that police used tear fuel shells, water canons and batons to disperse protesters who attempted to breach barricades on Bepin Behari Ganguly Side road. 

The BJP employees had been marching in protest of the killings in their employees in Sandeshkhali within the proceeding violence in Bengal within the aftermath of the polls. 

A video of the incident tweeted via ANI displays a face-off between the Kolkata police and protesters who climbed at the barricades and attempted to drag them down. 

The video displays the police used water canons after the BJP employees controlled to drag down a few barricades. 

Bengali newspaper Ananda Bazaar Patrika reported that the BJP employees additionally pelted stones on the police.  

The Hindustan Times reported that the march began at Kolkata’s Subodh Mullick Sq. and used to be intended to transport against Lalbazaar.
